BENGALURU: A day after the high court has passed an interim order, restraining Naveen Raj Singh, principal secretary of the department of housing, from officiating as acting chairperson of the Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA) with immediate effect, the state govt Thursday appointed Rakesh Singh, IAS (retired), as the chairperson of the entity on Thursday.
Singh has previously worked as the head of the water resources department, administrator for BBMP, and also as additional chief secretary of the urban development department (UDD).
Earlier on Tuesday, Justice R Nataraj of the high court, which is hearing a petition challenging the appointment of Naveen Raj Singh as acting chairperson of K-RERA, said that it is not advisable for him to continue in the post as there is no provision in the Karnataka Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Rules, 2017 for a third person/an officer of the state govt to be nominated as an in-charge chairperson to fill the vacancy.
The senior-most member of K-RERA shall continue to be the in-charge chairperson of K-RERA, until the vacancy is filled by a fresh order of appointment in accordance with the rules, the judge said in his order.
